NY V. NJ: Property Tax V. Income Tax?

I'm pensive of buying a place in NJ instead of NY. Within the range of any potential commutes (ie., from Brooklyn, Queens or Jersey Municipality), the comparative $ / sq. ft. is lower in NJ. I've heard that NJ property taxes are higher than NY but NY charges a urban district tax. How does all this add up in the long run? If property costs a bit more but taxes are lower over the long term then is it more safely a improved to buy in NY after all? Does anyone have numbers for comparison?

Answer: I don't have brutish numbers but it is my understanding that the New York City income tax is much less onerous than the property tax charged by most NJ municipalities.
