I Need Info As To What Happens During A Corporate IRS Tax Audit?
Question by Amber Lynn | Posted in United States
I have never been through one before. My job has been selected by our clear IRS to be audited. They have stated which areas they will be looking at. I am one of the accountants here and have no clue what to expect. My job gets internally audited every year and we also have Solitary tax accounts that prepare the company's income tax return.
I want to know what will chance when they get here. Will they look at EVERY single entry under a certain account? Or is it a random sample they
Answer: The key trend is to be organized at the audit. The IRS staff hates dealing with stacks of paper and disorganization. Have everything segregated, tabbed, with adding mechanism tape to verify amounts from receipts etc. or line items on the 1120. The factor will tell you the main things they are looking for before the meeting if you call and ask. Usually they are going to zero in on certain areas and not the whole return. I would like to dedicate for a tax job at the IRS, but I am a little concerned about a possible pay cut. At what pay level would someone in my situation typically start? Thanks.
Answer: I suppose your education and CPA title qualify you for at least GS-7 government job but then again the IRS does not pay too well. They do have great benefits so that may check the pay cut. Oh, at GS-7 you are probably looking at about $48000 a year.
How Can I File An IRS Income Tax Extension For Myself And For My Business (corporation)? Can I Do It Online?
Question by Danny916 | Posted in United States
I heard that I can get more in good time always to do my corporate taxes... they're due tomorrow. Help!
Answer: Sensible answers above on what forms to file, things to remember, etc.
If you want to file both online, there's only one website I cognizant of of that does both personal and business extensions. It's called filelater.com (http://www.filelater.com).
They key advantageously to submitting extensions online is that you get a confirmation from the IRS. If you do it by mail, you never know if your extension was received/approved. Then you jeopardize penalties.
Can The Irs Garnish Corporate Assets To Pay For Back Personal Taxes?
Question by CJ | Posted in United States
I owe some $14,000 in back taxes and I own a corporation now. I discern that the IRS can cease personal assets, from property to bank accounts. Can they touch assets under the corporation's name as well?
Answer: As a rule no. A corporation is considered a separate legal entity from it's shareholders. Typically, if either the IRS or another judicial entity pierces the corporate veil, it is in the other direction (going after the shareholders' personal assets to relax the corporation's debts).
