Say you post a hotel room and forget to cancel within the required time. So you are now stuck paying for the allowance, but would you still have to pay the occupancy tax even though you did not occupy the room. Seems like a reasonable question about a very unreasonable tax.
Answer: Yes. You have to pay whatever amount the hotel/motel asks you to pay if you crave to "reserve" the right to use the room.
Once you do so, you prevent anyone else from occupying that latitude.
