Are The Tax Filing Programs On Irs.gov Really Free?
Question by Jason D | Posted in United States
I went through a tie-in on irs.gov to find a website to do my taxes for free. Now all of a sudden there is a $16.95 fee. Was there something I forgot to do? Why is there a fee when according to irs.gov it should be free?
Answer: it's free only for valid types of filing - check out the irs.gov site, and make sure you chose the type they stated was free.
In the late I have always used Turbo Tax to do my taxes at a cost of about $60 for state and federal combined. Does Turbo Tax propose any benefit that will make the cost worthwhile over the Freefile that you can use for free from the IRS website? I am going to owe lolly this year and I am trying to save as much money as possible. If I can save $60 by using the Freefile, thats a start.
Answer: Turbo tax maximizes your deductions by basically tattling you exactly what you can deduct. It makes it easy for dummies. If you have a list or already recognize exactly what you can deduct, then the free file is worth it. That is the main difference.
