Are Students Exempt From Income Tax & National Insurance If They Work? |
I'm a pupil wanting to work weekends for minimum wage, and was wandering if income tax and national warranty will still be deducted from my pay?..I only want to work up to 18hrs. Thanks.
| Answer: Can I accurate some misconceptions on here? Students are NOT exempt from tax in the UK. But all UK citizens are entitled to a tax-free personal allowance of £6475. The tax year goes from 6th April to 5th April, so if you start m soon, you will have a backlog of unused allowance. Both tax and NI are based on amount of earnings, not hours worked. But whereas tax is planned on a cumulative basis for the year, NI is on each payday in isolation. You can earn £110 a week before NI is deducted. Style |
